A ceremony last week marked the completion of the latest addition to the waterfront Greenpoint Landing development: 35 Commercial Street.

The project, one component of a larger complex which could eventually house 5,500 people, consists of a 22-story building that will feature 374 permanently affordable apartments - including 57 units for formerly homeless residents.

Park Tower Group developed the high-rise, with Breaking Ground to provide service to residents.

Housing at 35 Commercial Street is reserved for renters earning between 30 and 110 percent of the area median income level, with studios starting at just $400 per month.

Handel Architects designed the brick-clad building, which includes 7,600 square feet of retail space and fronts Bell Slip to the west, Commercial Street to the south, and Box Street Park to the north. Street level landscaping was designed by Greenpoint-based Alive Structures.

The 22-acre Greenpoint Landing site has seen 11 buildings open to date, including projects built by Park Tower Group, L&M Development Partners, and Brookfield Properties. The next building, a 40-story rental development from Rockefeller Group at 16 Dupont Street, is slated for completion next year.
