A 30-story medical office tower in the Yorkville area of the Upper East Side has topped out, Lendlease announced late last week.

The project from Extell, located at 1520 First Avenue, features 400,000 square feet of space, which will house doctor's offices, medical treatment centers, and retail. Completion of the tower is expected in 2025.

Located on the east side of First Avenue between East 79th and East 80th Street, the building's anchor tenant will be the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is slated to occupy an eight-story, 200,000-square-foot section of the building.

“We’re thrilled to once again work with Extell on a notable project that will bring a much-needed medical office facility to the growing Upper East Side medical community, already home to many of New York’s top hospitals and medical research centers,” said Lendlease executive general manager Steven Sommer. “With its top-of-the-line specifications, 1520 First Avenue is fully equipped to meet the needs of today’s healthcare providers and, in doing so, complement the area’s growth.”

Perkins Eastman is designing 1520 First Avenue, which has a rectangular footprint rising above a podium with numerous setbacks. Plans call for a facade of white paneling in a grid form, culminating in a crown with dark metal grilles.
