Superstructure is progressing on a prominent corner of the East Village where a seven- or eight-story mixed-use residential project is re-working its way through the Department of Buildings.
Only a few months after the project resumed construction, going dormant for nearly a year, the low-rise project at 88 E. 2nd is seemingly back on hold. According to building records, a new application is working through plan examination, most notably to add a potential eighth floor to the previously approved seven-story building. Currently the building is decked-out to its seventh floor, with a man-lift recently installed on the south elevation.
The project comes from a hyper-local East Village developer RMH Estates, with design by Gerald Caliendo. The current plans show 23 residential units with approximately 4,500 square feet of retail on the ground floor and cellar. The ultimate program of the building is still being determined by DOB. The design or aesthetic of the eventual project needn't be mentioned.
The project replaces a trio structures of varying sizes, the only real loss being a roughly eight-unit tenement building. Construction timeline is not currently known.
