Blocks of two- and three-story residential buildings near the Journal Square PATH station will soon be joined by a growing collection of high-rise towers from developer Namdar Group, reports 6sqft.
The Long Island-based firm is currently developing three projects within a two-block stretch, including a 27-story, 220-unit apartment building at 26-28 Van Reipen Avenue, a 27-story, 350-unit tower at 35 Cottage Street, and a 20-story, 116-unit building at 26 Cottage Street. The latter project is already under construction, as of last year.
The three towers, designed by C3D Architecture, will be connected at street level through a new pedestrian walkway along Homestead Place, cutting between Van Reipen and Cottage. The three initial projects will include a combined total of 736 apartments, as well as on-site office space and ground-floor commercial uses.
According to 6sqft, Namdar has also secured $120 million in construction financing for the construction of a 27-story, 432-unit tower at 618 Pavonia Avenue, and is expected to follow with another 27-story building featuring 575 apartments at 626 Newark Avenue.
Namdar has already completed one tower in Journal Square - the 16-story, 130-unit MRK development on Newkirk Street.
The developer's plans for the budding high-rise district in Journal Square date to at least 2018, according to Jersey Digs.
