A floating swimming pool is coming to the East River, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week.

The project, called +POOL, would float within the river just off of Pier 35 on the Manhattan's Lower East Side. The city and state are jointly parking on the water filtration demonstration project which will be used to fill the pool.

“Through innovative solutions like + POOL, we are providing children and their families with safe spaces to swim in New York City,” said Governor Hochul in a statement. "NY SWIMS is the largest statewide investment in swimming since the New Deal, and we’re increasing access to pools while helping our kids learn how to stay safe in the water.”

The filtration demonstration project at Pier 35 will start this month, and a pilot of the pool for final testing is set to follow in 2025.
