Scaffolding scrim blocks visibility of facade cladding installation at 450 Union where a new 20-story mixed-income, mixed-use residential building is rising on the western bank of the Gowanus canal.

The 203,000 SF project with 158 units is the largest by Brooklyn-based developer Tankhouse, with partner MacArthur Holdings. The design come from SO-IL, and Magnusson Architecture is listed as architect of record. KSK Construction is the general contractor overseeing the construction.

Rendering of 450 Union Looking East SO-IL

From SO-IL, "Stacked volumes of brick and glass are cut through with a dramatic void that opens terraces and courts to the city. Rotated floor plates grant each apartment long views toward downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan... while secondary sightlines through exterior corners connect residents directly to waterfront activity."

The project replaces a strip of single-story residential and commercial facilities. Completion is listed as May 2027.
