Window and facade components are being installed at 545 Sackett "Majestic" a 12-story mixed-use, mixed-income residential project on the northeastern section of the Gowanus Canal.
The 146-foot tall structure will ultimately contain 245,000 square feet of rental units, of which 25% will be earmarked as affordable or 64 of the 255 overall units. Roughly 18,000 square of retail is provisioned for the ground floor along Degraw and Nevins, some of which will be set aside for Gowanus Arts space in an effort to cater to the existing community.
The project team includes Domain Companies on the ownership side, Handel as Architect of Record, GoodRich for Interiors and Future Green Studio as the Landscape designer. Construction is being managed by Mega Contracting. According to the developer's website, construction cost is estimated to be $230 million.
According to the Architect, "Brick cladding in two complimentary custom blends visually tie the volumes together. Warm black metal panels punctuate both the brick and metal volumes and read as strong horizontal banding. Amenities include a fitness center, common rooftop deck, co-working space with its own dedicated outdoor area, lounges and terraces."
The site, vacant since 2021, was once home to Fulton Manufactured Gas; and required extensive soil remediation prior to starting construction.
Completion is anticipated in 2027.
