S9 Architecture has offered up photos of Rialto West, a new 100 percent affordable housing development on what was once a long-vacant site in Hell's Kitchen.

Facade detailsS9 Architecture

Located at 509 West 48th Street, the project from Douglaston Development and Actors Fund Housing Development Corporation consists of an eight-story building featuring 158 permanently affordable rental units for formerly homeless and low-to-middle-income households. Construction is ongoing for an adjacent park and a ground-floor community space for the nonprofit Indie Space.

"The façade is inspired by the surrounding loft-style industrial architecture and uses a mix of exposed brick, metal cladding, and expansive glass windows, chosen to bring maximum daylight into the building," reads a narrative from the S9 Architecture website.

The approximately 137,000-square-foot development, which straddles an Amtrak right-of-way, is located on a site identified in the City’s Western Rail Yard plan for development with affordable housing.
