Queens Development Group, a joint venture between Related Cos. and Sterling Equities, have announced the opening of the first homes at Willets Point Commons. 

The initial phase of the proejct includes 880 affordable homes, with 220 new units for low-income seniors simultaneously breaking ground in the third phase of the project.“

Today is a major milestone for Willets Point," said Mayor Mamdani in a news release. "I’m proud to welcome the first residents home to Willets Point Commons—the largest fully affordable housing development our city has seen in decades."

The first two phases of the project serve households earning between 30 and 120 percent of the area median income, including 20 percent of units reserved for Queens Community Board 7 residents, 10 percent for veterans or New York City municipal employees.

The full buildout of the second phase of the project will add an additional 1,400 homes to the project, creating a total of 2,500 new homes. Other elements of the project include a new public school, 150,000 square feet of open space, a new hotel, and Etihad Park - the future stadium for the New York City Football Club, which will open for the 2027 Major League Soccer season.
