Construction is complete for a $700-million life sciences development in West Harlem's Manhattanville Factory District, Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week.

The Taystee Lab Building, located on the former Taystee Bakery site along 126th Street, is an 11-story structure featuring 350,000 square feet of commercial space tailored for tenants engaged in life science research and technology development.

"The completion of the Taystee Lab Building is a milestone in the next chapter of Harlem's rich history," said Hochul in a news release. "Anchoring the Manhattanville Factory District, the new state-of-the-art building will serve as the home for innovative companies developing the next generation of life science research and technology. As we continue to build back from the pandemic, today's investments that support our life science infrastructure will ensure that we are better prepared, better equipped and more resilient in the future."

The project, built by Janus Property Company and JP Morgan Asset Management, also includes approximately 20,000 square feet of outdoor amenity space and 20,000 square feet of retail space to support food and beverage venues.

The Taystee Lab is billed as the anchor of Janus Property's Manhattanville Factory District, which features more than 1 million square feet of commercial and community uses in multiple buildings between West 125th Street to West 128th Street. The site also sits in close proximity to Columbia University's new Manhattanville campus and CUNY's City College.

"Back in May of 2019—when the Governor and I were at the groundbreaking for the Taystee Lab Building — we could not anticipate just how pertinent and necessary this investment would become," said Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin in a statement. "Now, as we dare to meaningfully rebuild the state's economy, it's only natural that we invest heavily in our health workforce and infrastructure
