In the midst of a precarious time for the hotel industry, Atlas Hospitality going big with plans for its latest project in Midtown.

According to Crains, the developer recently submitted plans to the New York Department of Buildings for the construction of a new hotel at 711 Seventh Avenue. Plans call for a 32-story, approximately 140,000-square-foot building that would rise roughly 343 feet in height.

Architect Gene Kaufman is designing the 401-room hotel, which does not yet have an attached brand.  A rendering obtained by Crains portrays the proposed project as a contemporary glass-and-steel tower.

Atlas hopes to break ground the project by early 2022, with the expectation of completing construction in 2025.

That timeline would place the hotel's opening date at a time when CBRE has predicted that New York's hotel occupancy rates will have recovered to pre-pandemic levels.

In addition to its new Midtown project, Atlas is also developing hotels in the Financial District and Times Square.
