Superstructure is now visible at 129 E. 28th where a 12-story mixed-use residential project is rising on the edge of Kips Bay
Helmed and managed by Spectra Construction & Development the 125'-tall building will be comprised of 43 rental units, 2,700 SF of retail and 3 parking space in a 38,000 SF package.
In the most flattering of descriptors, the design can best be described as "boring", but the neighborhood isn't particularly well-known for groundbreaking architecture. As can be seen in the rendering, the bulk of the building is clad in what appears to be Jerusalem stone, with composite paneled tumor enveloping the main building mass.
Z Architecture is the responsible architect, in defense of whom, has put forth better work elsewhere in the city. One can hope the finished project presents better in person.
The building replaces 3 prewar mixed-use buildings that once occupied the corner of 28th & Lexington. A completion timeline is not advertised
