Demolition was quickly completed and foundation work is now beginning at 101 E 9th St. where a 10-story, 10-unit mixed-use residential development will replace a single story laundromat. The irregular, trapezium shaped lot is being developed by Moonshot Development with BKSK Architects providing the design.
According to the developer's website, "the building is residential-first, prioritizing proportion, clarity, and longevity... architecture intended to age well" Preliminary renderings indicate a traditional gridded facade with bold geometric extrusions at the roof, leaning into the unique geometry of the site.
Posted signage lists expected completion in the Fall of 2027.
The proposed project was met with an unusual bit of controversy, despite the relative insignificance of the architecture for a single story retail space, due to the displacement of a 65 year-old laundromat "institution" a bastion of a neighborhood forever changed by redevelopment.
