Remobilization at 42-Story Hotel Plagued By Inactivity

Crews have remobilized at 58 W. 39th (aka Xadia Hotel) in Midtown where facade elements and curtain wall installation has leaped over to the west elevation. 

H Hotels is the developer behind the 173-key hotel that has been under construction since 2020. Recent permit activity suggests complications with original electrical engineering and subsequent powering of material hoist required to feed the construction site with necessary manpower and materials. 

The 42-story dramatically cantilevered structure is also setback from the street by 20' creating a very unusual massing for this 97,000 SF hotel. Marin Architects is claiming the design of this strikingly mundane property, with a confusing array of windows supposing to be an "architectural crown" 

Interior renderings depict venetian plaster ceilings and exotic stone cladding on walls & ceilings, with brass-trimmed glass partitions, much of which will undoubtedly be value-engineered out of the final product. 

No completion timeline is available for the Hotel, which replaces a 5-story brick commercial office; a rare instance in Midtown Manhattan where a 5-story building is preferable to a 42-story building.
