Construction is once again underway for 2 World Trade Center, the final office tower of the World Trade Center complex and the future global headquarters of American Express

“Today is a major milestone towards cementing the status of the World Trade Center campus as a premier location in our city for businesses from around the world to grow and thrive,” said Governor Kathy Hochul in a news release. “From the union labor who will build this remarkable tower, to the thousands of American Express employees who will work here for generations to come, 2 World Trade Center will be a shining symbol of the resilience, excellence and opportunity that defines Lower Manhattan.”

The 55-story, nearly 2-million-square-foot skyscraper, which being developed by Silverstein Properties ,will rise at 200 Greenwich Street on  land owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and operated under a long-term ground lease.

Foster + Partners  is designing the tower, which will feature more than an acre of outdoor amenity spaces, including landscaped terraces and gardens with skyline views. The building will stand 1,226 feet tall.

Completion of the tower is expected in 2031.
