Substructure and foundation work are underway at 180 E. 125th in East Harlem, where a 15-story mixed-use building with over 600 units will rise on the site formerly occupied by an expansive, single story grocery store.
According to DOB, the project architect is listed as S9 Architecture, which recently completed another mixed-use residential project across the street. JCS Realty is listed as the project developer, taking over for Extell.
The previous occupant was a PathMark Market, which occupied nearly the entire block. The lot has since been subdivided between this development site and a staging area for the 2nd Ave Subway extension, which quietly began this Spring.
The area is seeing an influx of development in advance of the 2nd Ave extension, with several projects recently completed and others breaking ground in an area already very well-served by local and regional transit options.
