Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the start of the planning phase for the redevelopment of the 100-acre Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens.
Empire State Development (ESD) is starting a series of community workshops this month to let residents weigh in on how the site should be used, with a focus on housing, parks, and retail.
“As we work to address New York’s housing crisis and create more vibrant, inclusive communities, it is critical that we fully utilize state-owned land,” said Hochul in a news release. “The Aqueduct site represents a significant opportunity, and through this community-driven process, we will ensure its future reflects the immediate priorities of Queens residents while expanding housing, economic opportunity and public amenities for all New Yorkers for years to come.”
The workshops will be held on the following dates/locations:
- Workshop #1 Option 1 - In Person: May 12 | 6:00 – 8:30 PM | John Adams High School
- Workshop #1 Option 2 - Virtual: May 14 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Additional workshops will be held through 2026, with a refined master plan for the project expected in early 2027.
