New York City-based architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) recently released renderings for a residential supertall at 520 Fifth Avenue that will rise 1,000 feet tall.
Per Dezeen, the 450,000-square-foot tower is set to be Fifth Avenue’s second tallest tower, following the Empire State Building. Its facade draws inspiration from its neighbors— including Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, and the Chrysler Building— and showcases modular-arranged fluted casing arched windows of various heights, asymmetrical stepped volumes, and an arched colonnade. The project was also inspired by the speculative architectural drawings of architect Hugh Ferriss.
"Our design for the 520 Fifth Avenue tower combines the setbacks of Hugh Ferris' 1920's New York with arches arranged in modular bundles – rising to 1,000 feet," KPF president James von Klemperer told Dezeen.
Details for the development’s interiors have yet to be revealed, however, the building is slated to include luxury apartments art the top and office spaces with terraces on the lower levels. Construction is underway and the building is projected to be complete sometime in 2025.
