Construction has commenced for HELP One, a new affordable housing complex in East New York which is among the largest income-restricted projects announced for Brooklyn this year.
The project, reports YIMBY, will rise from a large parcel located at 515 Blake Avenue. Developer HELP USA and Curtis + Ginsberg Architects are planning an initial phase comprised of 184 homes featuring a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings, 60 percent of which will be reserved for formerly homeless youth and families.
A second component of the project will add an additional 71 studio and one-bedroom apartments, with 60 percent set aside for formerly homeless adults with mental health issues.
The completed project will include 255 affordable housing units, with supportive services to be provided through the New York City 15/15 Program.
Funding for the $129 million development comes from a variety of private and public sources.
