A new apartment tower is in the works for the Upper East Side, reports Patch.

The proposed project, planned at the southwest corner of Second Avenue and East 83rd Street, would consist of a 272-foot-tall building featuring 106 apartments and commercial space, according to city records.  Plans call for a portion of the housing to be set aside for rent by lower-income households.

Patch reports that the owner of the property is listed as Hersel Torkian of the Torkian Group, a company with numerous projects planned for Midtown and Lower Manhattan.

SLCE Architects, which is also behind a proposed 23-story micro-unit apartment tower on the Upper West Side, is designing the Second Avenue development.

The new construction would replace a collection of small residential and commercial buildings dating to the early 20th century.
