NYC’s fourth-tallest tower is adding a new amenity sure to have thrill-seekers lining up and acrophobics shaking their heads.

One Vanderbilt developer SL Green revealed plans today for Summit One Vanderbilt, a thrill-inducing observatory atop the 1,400-foot Midtown supertall.

Starting October 21, visitors will have the opportunity to ride an all-glass elevator, called Ascent, up the side of the building to a new observation deck that includes two glass-floored skyboxes, called Levitation, that jut out 1,063 feet over Madison Avenue.

For the faint of heart, the deck will also offer an outdoor bar and cafe by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events, the highest urban outdoor alpine meadow in the world, and an interactive art installation designed by Kenzo Digital.

The four-level entertainment space was designed by Snøhetta and is in all 65,000 square feet. The project took several years to conceive, design, and develop, said SL Green in a press statement.

Summit One Vanderbilt will be connected directly to Grand Central Terminal, perfectly positioning it before tourists who visit the historic station by the tens of millions annually.
